Romans 3:9-20

In this sermon on Romans 3:9–20, Pastor Blaine unpacks Paul’s argument that all people—Jew and Gentile alike—are “under sin.” By drawing from multiple Old Testament passages, Paul shows that sin has corrupted our thoughts, speech, and actions, leaving no one righteous before God. The sermon explains the doctrine of total depravity, not meaning that everyone is as sinful as possible, but that every part of human life is touched by sin, and no one can justify themselves by works or even their own conscience. Instead, the law reveals our need for a Savior, pointing us to Christ, who bore the penalty of sin and offers His righteousness to us. Through communion, we are reminded of both the seriousness of sin and the sufficiency of Jesus’ sacrifice, and are called to live in response with humility, repentance, and obedience until He returns.
