GLOBAL MINISTRY VISION
The Eastmont Global Ministry seeks to create a healthy, outward-focused active church with a global perspective of carrying the salvation message of Christ to all peoples worldwide. We seek to integrate a worldview of the Great Commission into all ministries. Our hope is for a universal awareness and involvement of the entire Eastmont family in evangelizing the lost, locally, nationally, and worldwide.
PURPOSE
Global Ministry’s purpose is to promote and encourage involvement in outreach ministries outside of our local area. This is accomplished by: providing cross-cultural ministry experiences in which participants grow in spiritual maturity by serving, growing and developing relationships with missionaries thereby providing support and encouragement to their ministry and to them personally. Eastmont supports external ministries through prayer and financial support, as well as direct involvement through short-term projects and trips.
ROLES/OPPORTUNITIES
Opportunities for service within Global ministries are diverse. Time commitments range from intense work during a specific project like the short-term Nogales missions trip to less intense but ongoing involvement in a specific task or area of service. Each of the following areas presents an opportunity to get involved as a leader, coordinator, or team member. The commitment can be ongoing or limited to a specific task or project.
Growing Mission / Involvement: Global Ministry is striving to encourage mission awareness within all Eastmont ministries and provide opportunity for missions training and outreach involvement. Our goal is to be a linkage and a resource for mission information for all Eastmont ministries.
Short Term: Short-term mission trips have proven themselves to be an effective way to increase involvement and support of missions. A short-term trip brings together all aspects of ministry purpose. A short-term trip provides the opportunity to grow through service in a team setting. Relationships are built and strengthened. Vision for outreach is created, and of course the project provides a practical benefit to the host ministry. Pulling off a successful short-term trip provides many opportunities for service. People are needed to step up and take responsibility for a variety of tasks. For example, the annual Eastmont mission trip to Nogales involves the following opportunities:
Team leadership – including recruiting, team building, and supervision of the team
Project Planning - oversees the building project and all related logistics such as design, materials, skills, tools, needed manpower, and costs.
Outreach Coordination - determines to whom the outreach is primarily directed, and to coordinate the needed staff, methods, and materials used. Also will coordinate the daily team devotionals.
Fund Raising - determines costs involved and plans fundraising activities.
Training - determines what training is needed for the mission
Transportation coordination - oversees transportation logistics such as airline tickets, vehicle reservations, drivers, transportation between Tucson AZ and Nogales Mexico
Mission participants - people with a desire to share God's love with another culture and work on a building project
Publicity: In order to encourage involvement in out of area ministries the Eastmont body needs to be informed. The goal is to create understanding of the challenges faced by ministry workers, and to create an awareness of the tremendous things God is doing through these ministries. The focus of this position is to assimilate information received through prayer letters, e-mails from missionaries, reviewing their web sites, and other sources and then to succinctly and effectively communicate information. Areas that have been used effectively in the past include, monthly article in the Eastmont Eagle, development of video and power point presentations, weekly brief articles in the church bulletin and through displays.
Specific ministry opportunities include:
Publicity coordinator
Reporters/ writers
Video / presentation developer
Visit / Special Event Coordination: Visits by a variety of groups and supported ministries are always a blessing. We’re informed and get a sense of the missionary’s life and work. The need is for a team to coordinate the visit. A ministry event involves the details of scheduling, planning, and implementing the event. Arrangements are made for meals, lodging and transportation. Specific ministry opportunities include:
Event Coordinator
Hospitality manager (homes for coffees, place for visiting mission-aries, families, speakers, etc.)
Program developer
Team members
Communications: Missionaries are located in many countries of the world and the USA. Living in different cultures can be a challenge. At times they feel disconnected from their families and friends in the US. Relationships start to develop during their visits to Eastmont, but ongoing communication is necessary to continue to build those relationships. The advent of e-mail has given us an easy tool to use in order to be in frequent contact with our Global Workers. It enables us to be aware of their needs on a frequent basis and to know specifically how we can pray at any time for them and encourage others to pray for them also. Ministry opportunities include:
Coordinator of monthly or bi-monthly communication to missionaries (including mailing sermon tapes)
Prayer request coordinator
Prayer warriors
Ministry Development: This area of Global Ministries provides the oversight and administrative work of the ministry. Specific ministry opportunities include:
Leader Training – to coordinate and perpetuate the ministry
Recruitment of Global Ministry members
Administration
Budget Development
Committee Meetings
